World’s largest floating offshore wind farm becomes operational

The 50MW Kincardine Offshore Windfarm
— the world’s largest floating project to date— has been brought online.

Located in 60-80 metre depths in the North Sea, 15km off Aberdeenshire, Scotland, it comprises five Vestas V164-9.5 MW turbines and one V80-2 MW turbine, mounted on WindFloat semi-submersible platforms.

The 9.5MW turbines are the largest ever installed on floating platforms and together, they should generate in excess of 200GWh annually. The wind farm will be operated and maintained from Aberdeen.
